Who is He?
With his musical compositions performed in over a dozen countries, Jordon He has been recognised internationally as a composer of creative programming and a performer with passionate interpretations. His passion for music began at age five after hearing a violin performance. Since then, he has been inspired to play the violin and compose music. Jordon utilises his extensive orchestral background in his compositional techniques, with experiences such as being selected as a member of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Prodigy Project in 2016. In 2020, he completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, studying under the tutelage of Natsuko Yoshimoto, concertmaster of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
In 2017, Jordon toured Europe and Asia with the Queensland Youth Symphony as a violinist. In 2020, Jordon performed with the Southern Cross Soloists, the company-in-residence of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and one of Australia’s most long-running and formidable chamber music ensembles, at the 2020 BLEACH* Festival.
Jordon’s works have been performed in venues including the Sydney Opera House, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Joseph Joachim Konzertsaal (Berlin) and Musiikkitalo (Helsinki). Jordon has collaborated extensively as a composer and arranger with the internationally acclaimed violin duo, TwoSet Violin. Highlights of his compositional career include a sell-out concert at the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium in Hong Kong by the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and TwoSet Violin in 2017 and composing ‘Fantasia’, a suite in four movements for string sextet, which has gathered millions of views and streams across all major music streaming platforms including YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and more since it was released in June 2022. Jordon also performed ‘Fantasia’ with the Gold Coast Chamber Orchestra at Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia in December 2022.
Outside of his work with TwoSet, Jordon’s music has been featured in the 2020 BLEACH* Festival, the 2021 Brisbane Music Festival, the 2022 Brisbane Music Festival, the 2021 Bangalow Music Festival, the 2022 Bangalow Music Festival, and the VIII St. Petersburg International New Music Festival in 2021.
In late-2022, Jordon worked in partnership with the award-winning writer, Yen-Rong Wong and composers Carlo Antonioli, Heidi Chan and John Rotar, to compose a series of musical vignettes that accompany the spoken words. The project, named the “Joy Luck Pub”, was sponsored by the Australian National Academy of Music and aimed to reimagine the stories of Asian Australians. It was performed on 2 October 2022 at Tempo Rubato in Melbourne, Australia.
In his free time, Jordon enjoys delving into linguistics, history, and spending perhaps too much money on bubble tea.
